Reaching Out to the World… On a Budget

Presenter(s):
Tron Compton-Engle, Case Western Reserve University Law School
Megan Allen, Case Western Reserve University Law School

Many Law Schools, including Case Western Reserve University’s, are aggressively pursuing global partnerships. Schools which seek international connections often face complex technical challenges and very significant new costs to support these initiatives. For example, horror stories of multiple thousand dollar cell phone bills are common for the connected foreign traveler. In our session we will start by discussing some ways that CWRU IT and Library staff members are working with our faculty and administrators to stay connected and productive in other countries while keeping costs down. Then we will open up the floor for a discussion of other creative ways that schools are managing the technical and fiscal challenges of an increasing global legal profession.

The goal is to produce a menu of cost effective communication options for various parts of the world that can be shared among law schools. We have set up a website to share information: https://sites.google.com/a/case.edu/budgettechtravel/. Check it out in advance of the session and add your comments and suggestions and come back afterward to continue the conversation.
