The Value-Added Repository: Enhancing Discoverability through Linked Data

Law libraries are continuously searching for new ways to add value to their organizations, and institutional repositories have long represented an avenue where such contributions can potentially take place. The application of semantic web technologies to an institutional repository represents another step toward making the platform an active, discoverable research tool rather than a static silo of information.

This program will explore the Cornell Law Library and the Legal Information Institute’s efforts to apply a linked data layer to the Library’s recently-added holdings for Cornell Law School’s student-run journals. The program will discuss the possibilities and challenges of using linked data to enhance discoverability of legal scholarship and provide increased opportunities for connections between data repositories and end-user points of entry.
