Using Powershell to bring Federal Depository Libraries into this decade
The librarians in many Federal Depository Libraries have been using DOCS2000 for the past 15 years. With the end of support for Windows XP, there’s a good chance of DOCS2000 no longer working in a newer Windows environment, especially if they end up running a 64-bit OS. We encountered that problem as we began moving our users to Windows 7 x64 a couple years ago. Initially, we tried a lot of things to make it work, but no joy. Finally, I ended up writing a Perl script named DOCS2012 to replace the basic functionality of DOCS2000. It has functioned acceptably although I’ve never been happy with it. The most notable problem is that it requires a third-party program to compile and run the script in Windows, so that has required some explaining as I’ve shared it with a few other schools. Two years later, I’ve decided to rewrite it into PowerShell. In this session, I will demonstrate the program and solicit ideas for additional features.
