Taking your ILS on the open (source) road

Presenter(s):
Victoria Szymczak, University of Hawaii at Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law

In this session, Brooklyn Law School librarians will discuss their move to an open source integrated library system. We will review the ILS systems considered in the process, address why we selected Koha by ByWater Solutions, and review the steps taken to migrate our database successfully. We will reveal the problems that kept us up late at night, the joyous moments that come to all who participate in an open source world, and the plans we have for future growth. Hopefully, we will conclude with a positive comparison of our open source solution (which has a go live date of June 1) to standard commercial products in use by law schools now. Brooklyn Law School will be the first U.S. law library to adopt an open source ILS.
