Pedagogy & Practicality: Teaching legal tech to law students at the Legal Information Institute

Speaker(s):

The Legal Information Institute at Cornell Law School is best known for decades of technical innovation in publishing legal reference materials online for free. Law students have always performed a wide variety of roles in helping us realize that mission. The increased emphasis on technology in legal practice calls for a broader approach than ever before to incorporating law students into our work, both to prepare them to practice and to increase the breadth and depth of the features we provide to the public on our website.

This presentation will explain where we see the world of legal technology impacting the law practice environment that students will encounter upon graduation. It will address how LII currently works with law students to build their skills in areas ranging from direct exposure to the some of the specific types of cutting-edge technologies powering the tools they’ll encounter in practice to building more general skills such as working collaboratively.  Finally, we'll preview some new initiatives we're planning in order to increase the LII's impact in this increasingly important area of legal education.
