ABA Library Standards: Building an Assessment Toolkit

Join us in a discussion of meaningful library assessment –implementing tools (i.e. LSSSE, ABA Takeoffs, Surveys, focus groups) to assess the library success in meeting the ABA standards requirement that the library “provides support through expertise, resources, and services adequate to enable the law school to carry out its program of legal education, accomplish its mission, and support scholarship and research”;The program will discuss assessment tools to demonstrate:
1. Expertise of
a) Library Director (Standard 603)
b) Library Staff (Standard 604)
2. Resources (Standard 602(d)) budget for the law library shall be determined as part of, and administered in the same manner as, the law school budget.  Collection (Standard 606)
3. Services (Standard 605 Appropriate range and depth . . . to meet the needs of the law school’s teaching, scholarship, research, and service programs )
a) Reference (Standard 605)
b) Instructional Services (Standard 605)
c) Bibliographic (Standard 605)
d) Other Services (Standard 605)
4. Develop and maintain a direct and informed, and responsive relationship with :
a) the faculty,
b) students, and
c) administration of the law school (Standard 601(a)(2))
5. Working with the Dean and Faculty a) engages in a regular planning and assessment process, i) including written assessment of the effectiveness of the library in achieving its mission and realizing its established goals; (Standard 601(a)(3))
