One Less Textbook To Drag Around: Creating an Online Learning Experience for 1L Legal Skills Students

Presenter(s):
Lucie Olejnikova, Pace University School of Law
Cynthia Pittson, Pace University School of Law

Law textbooks are heavy and expensive, and, despite the hundreds of legal research books available, we couldn’t quite find one that fit the needs of our first year students. So we decided to make our own. We did not want to reinvent the wheel, so we used a wide variety of tools, information, and websites already available to create an online mobile-optimized learning environment that our students can access anytime, anywhere, and from any device. We designed it to appeal to all learning styles, incorporating text, graphics, audio, video and self-testing options. The ROI can be easily measured, which is always a plus. Upper level research classes can review basic legal research using this online learning hub, and instructors can refer students to this e-book during class.
