A2J for Clinics - Matching Law Students with Legal Aid Projects for Clinical Education

Presenter(s):
John Mayer, CALI
Ron Staudt, Chicago-Kent College of Law

CALI is engaged in the "A2J for Clinics Project" where we are creating a website that matches clinical law students with projects at legal aid organizations using A2J Author.  We are also working with 6 different law schools to publish their course materials so that they can be used by other schools to integrate A2J Author into their own clinical courses.

The goal is to get every law school in the country to participate in a "quad-fecta" of benefits.
1. Law students learn a 21st century law practice skill - automating a legal process
2. Legal aid gets a court form or other legal process automated,
3. Law Schools get curricular materials to teach modern law practice courses,
4. Self representing litigants or Pro Ses get free legal guidance one the automated form/process is published.
CALI is developing a collection of services to serve this process including software for authoring court forms (A2J Author), a website where law schools can find projects for their students, and clonable websites that can be re-used/re-mixed by law schools across the country.
We will report on the progress of this project and how law schools can participate.
