Not Ready for the Full Monte? Getting Started on Using Distance Education Techniques in Traditional Face-to-Face Classrooms
Many law school faculty members feel uncomfortable with teaching a distance education course because of worries about technological expertise and reliability or concerns about losing that in-class connection with students. Yet many faculty do not realize how easily they introduce DE techniques to better connect with their technology savvy students in their traditional face-to-face classrooms.
This session will focus on ways to encourage reluctant faculty to apply some basic DE techniques into their traditional classrooms as a first step. The panel will discuss the potential use of course home pages, discussion boards, podcasts, virtual office hours, and other key DE techniques in traditional classes. In addition, the importance of training resources and other institutional support will be discussed to help faculty feel greater ease and confidence in learning about and using DE tools in their courses.
