Revolt and Revolution in Casebook Pricing and Distribution

Traditional hardbound casebooks routinely retail for $150 for a fresh copy. As students struggle with higher prices, the used book market (both at local stores and on line), reserve library copies, and the temptations of illicit photocopying, professors need to consider – perhaps for the first time – the dynamics of the casebook market and its alternatives. The session explores (a) what traditional casebook publishers appear to be doing, with e-offerings and other strategies; and (b) alternative approaches to casebook creation and distribution, such as eLangdell, HydraText, and Semaphore Press.
