Simulations in the Classroom & in Teaching: Using SIMPLE (SIMulated Professional Learning Environment)
Simulations are an effective, alternative method to traditional law school teaching and can achieve some of the teaching objectives and deficits noted in the Carnegie Report. A well-written simulation can hone a single skill, reinforce the mastery of a single concept or yield a more complex "capstone" learning experience for students.
Many of you may have seen faculty from The Law School at University of Strathclyde demonstrate and explain SIMPLE (SIMulated Professional Learning Environment) at previous CALI conferences. CALI is working to introduce simulations using SIMPLE to US law schools. At the June 2009 CALI Conference in Boulder, CALI invited five faculty from US law schools to work with the Strathclyde faculty to create their own simulations.
This session will discuss the progress made in creating simulations and introduce you to SIMPLE. This session will be focus on the hands-on and intellectual tasks necessary for the planning and initial development of a SIMPLE simulation.
