Introducing CALI eLangdell Lawbooks

Speaker(s):

This session will introduce the CALI eLangdell Lawbooks platform for self-service legal publishing. Built on the Open Textbook and Pressbooks plugins for Wordpress, CALI eLangdell Lawbooks provides a robust platform that allows members of the CALI community to create their own law books including casebooks, textbooks, supplements, teaching guides, hornbooks, and monographs. The system uses an easy to learn browser-based editor for writing, allows for drag and rop organization of material and chapters, provides a fully functional web version of the book, and exports to a number of popular formats including PDF, EPUB (for iOS and Android devices), and MOBI (for Amazon Kindles). Lawbooks includes a number of custom features including being able to import court opinions from Fastcase directly into the site.
The session will walk folks through the process of setting up a book, give them an overview of the authoring workflow supported by the site, and demonstrate some key features of the platform. The CALI eLangdell Lawbooks site is live now at http://lawbooks.cali.org and it hosts the web versions of the CALI eLangdell Casebooks. For a list of all the titles currently available on eLangdell Lawbooks see http://lawbooks.cali.org/books/.
